The family of a young woman, who succumbed to her injuries following a triple shooting, is seeking assistance from the public to have her buried.
Sylvester Thomas needs EC $14,000 to bury his daughter, Xavier Thomas, who was gunned down on August 18 in Cedar Grove.
Susan Athill Mitchell, a friend of the family, said in addition to losing his “beloved” child, Thomas has to deal with the “terrific” funeral expenses. His only option, she said, is to get a loan.
Appealing to the public, Mitchell asked, “Can we give him some support and whatever we can spare financially towards these expenses?”
Thomas is a senior sailing instructor and teaches children at the National Sailing Academy, the Jolly Harbour Yacht Club, the Antigua Yacht Club, the Antigua and Barbuda Sailing Association and the Caribbean Sailing Association.
“Most of us are parents, and I, for one, find it hard to imagine going through this. Let’s help,” Mitchell also pleaded on Facebook.
Three people were charged with the murder of Xavier. They are Shalom Bailey, Dorian Marshall and Jason Millette who are also accused of shooting with intent to murder because two men were also injured in the drive-by attack.
Police report that the young woman, along with Lorne “TI” Nicholas, 49, and Sean Matthew, 32, all of Cedar Grove, were sitting on a corner in the village when a vehicle pulled alongside them and an occupant opened fire.
