A Nonsuch Bay man was yesterday remanded to prison on five drug-related charges since his lawyer was unavailable. The matter against Jaron Philip has been put off until Thursday.

The U.S. national who has been living in Antigua for several years, is charged with possession of 18.5 pounds of cannabis, importation, intent to transfer, being concerned with the supply of drugs, and drug- trafficking.

Yesterday, he indicated to the police that he is a citizen of Antigua and Barbuda and the court was promised it would be provided with his citizenship document at the next hearing when he seeks bail.

Last week Thursday, the police and Customs officials intercepted a barrel containing over 18 pounds of cannabis at the Deep Water Harbor.

Philip, 28, was arrested after the barrel was searched with the assistance of the K9 unit and the contraband was found.
