The driver of a vehicle which crashed into an animal, apparently a horse, and lamp post while travelling through Powells area Monday night walked out the wreck uninjured.
However, the police said the animal which he collided with died on the spot.
The animal was thrown into a nearby concrete culvert after being hit. Its organs could be seen protruding from its abdomen as it laid dead on the grass.
The accident occurred around 9 pm, about 24 hours after a young man lost his life and seven other people were injured in a three-vehicle smash up on Factory Road.
