HANOVER, Jamaica — Two elderly men were shot dead in the rural community of Mount Peace in Hanover Saturday night.
The dead men have been identified as 63-year-old shopkeeper Vernon Hall of Mount Peace, and 55-year-old cabinet-maker Patrick Robinson, who is originally of a Hopewell address in the parish.
Police report that about 9:30 pm, both men were sitting on a bench along the road near Hall’s shop when they were attacked by men who drove up in a car.
According to the police, someone was sitting with the men but walked away when the car arrived. Loud explosions were later heard.
Investigators are theorising that at least two men were involved in the shooting, as evidence of two different types of weapons was found.
The police, who are yet to determine a motive for the killings, said the incident was not a drive-by shooting as evidence indicates that the men were on foot during the firing of the weapons.
According to the police, the murders were the first to have taken place in Mount Peace in approximately 18 months.
