The Barbuda Council is planning a number of developmental and infrastructural undertakings for the 62 square-mile island, which are expected to take place over the next several months.
Council Chairman Devon Warner told Observer that the roads on the sister island will be tackled in addition to the clearing of the roadways in order for Barbudans to have access to lands.
However, Warner said that these things are in the planning stage.
“We’re looking to empower Barbudans, basically, with regards to some road construction and with regards to making roads available to land that Barbudans have been applying for so they can build their homes or go into agriculture, whatever the plans are.
“But the Barbuda Council [is] looking to ensure that these facilities are put in place so we can empower the people of Barbuda,” he said.
He also noted that there were other initiatives in the pipeline, which he stopped short of describing and only added that “the Barbuda Council is always looking at ways to empower the people of Barbuda”.
According to Warner, work at the Hannah Thomas Hospital is continuing as it pertains to the lab and the various services that are being offered there to islanders.
“All those things are being worked [on] … but hopefully by the end of the year, we would have a firm grip on these services that the Barbuda Council [provides for] the people of Barbuda,” the Council chairman said.
Warner also referred to legal challenges that the body is dealing with, but he declined to go into details.
The Council has mounted several environmental court challenges to include the construction of the Barbuda airport runway.
