In a few weeks, several young leaders will be honoured at the National Youth Awards for their significant impact in fields such as agriculture, tourism, education, entrepreneurship, media, culture and culinary arts.

Under the theme “Anchored in Purpose and Vision”, the celebratory gala is set to take place at the University of West Indies Five Islands Campus on November 30.

The event is being hosted by the Department of Youth Affairs (DYA), which falls under the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Social Transformation and the Environment. It will feature keynote speeches by prominent figures in youth advocacy and performances by talented youth across the island.

“As we count down to November 30th, anticipation remains high,” the Director of Youth Affairs, Dr Jrucilla Samuel said. “2024 has been an awesome year for the DYA. We have launched and executed some successful programmes and we are looking forward to round off the year with what is considered our biggest event, the National Youth Awards.”

“It’s a lot of work,” said the director, “but with the assistance of members of the National Youth Volunteer Corps, National Youth Ambassador Corps, and past awardees, we are working diligently to ensure that young leaders receive that national recognition they deserve,” Dr Samuel said.

She also expressed gratitude to everyone who submitted their nominations in a timely manner and is expecting greater public participation for the 2025 Awards.

The director added that nominations will be opened early once again, and urged members of the public not to delay but to submit their nominations in a timely manner.

Additional information is available on the ministry’s website and the DYA’s social media pages as well as the Department of Youth Affairs on Facebook (Antigua & Barbuda Department of Youth Affairs) or on Instagram (anu_departmentofyouthaffairs).
