Defending champs eliminated from President’s Cup

Defending champions in the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) President’s Cup, Sandals Grenades, were eliminated on Wednesday, falling 4-2 on penalties to FC Aston Villa after the teams finished level 2-2 at regulation time.
Junior Sosa had one of Villa’s conversions while the other came via an own-goal after Renay Serrano inadvertently put the ball past his own goalkeeper. Rakeem Henry scored both goals for Grenades.
Villa then went on to outscore the defending champions 4-2 from the penalty spot and will move on to the next round of the knockout competition.
Also on Wednesday, Cool & Smooth Greenbay Hoppers defeated Westham 2-0 with both goals coming from Akeil Barrette.
There was victory as well for Old Road as they had the better of Tryum by a 1-0 margin. Alickson Montoute was on target for the victors.
Former Premier Division champions SAP also felt the joys of victory when they beat Five Islands 1-0. Kemoi Williams was on target for the victors.
Meanwhile, another top flight champion, Empire, eased into the next round of matches with a 2-1 victory over Earthquake. Nicardo Lindsay and Jermain Hunte each scored once for the victors while Kenny Morgan scored the only goal for newcomers Earthquake.
In the other match played on Wednesday, Asot’s Arcade Parham beat Young Lions 1-0 with the only goal of the contest coming from Reginald Richardson.
