Around 30 cyclists will take to the streets this weekend as they compete in the Jenel Warner Annual Circuit Race.
Cyclists will compete in the Elite, Masters, Sports, Cadets, Elite Female, Elite Juniors, Junior Female, Junior Male, and Under-13 Cadet classes on Sunday.
This is the fourth race of the season put on by the Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Federation (ABCF).
The race is expected to get underway at 3 pm, but President of the ABCF St Clair Williams is encouraging all interested competitors to arrive at 1:45pm so that all the relevant covid protocols can be carried out.
“When you get to the venue, you have to go to the hand washing station first and then your temperature is checked. Then, we take your name and number, among other things, so it is a very rigorous programme as it relates to the Covid-19 protocols,” Williams explained.
He noted that there will be a strict no spectator rule at the start/finish line.
“You must come wearing your mask unless you are warming up and for all the persons, we are promoting a no spectator venue. Coaches, mechanics and trainers will be allowed to be in the start/finish line and of course, our volunteers will be permitted also. We know persons like to come out and watch the races but what we are saying is you cannot come to the start/finish line. I know some persons park along Shell Beach and that is fine,” he added.
Williams also mentioned that they will be streaming the event live.
“We will be streaming live, and thanks to APUA Inet for being our sponsor for the third year consecutively. We are making sure that you can log on to our Antigua and Barbuda Cycling Federation (ABCF) Facebook page. We are going to stream just about half and hour, forty-five minutes before the race. Normally, we show the preparation part of it and then we have some commentary leading up to the race and then, we hit the race,” he said.
The race will begin in Coolidge where the old Observer office used to be.
