Crushers’ Francis Jr and Empire’s Athanaze top performers as Two Day enters semifinals stage

Elroy Francis Jr of Pigotts Crushers and Justin Athanaze of Empire Nation are the leading batsman and bowler at the end of the preliminary round of the Antigua and Barbuda Cricket Association (ABCA) Two Day Competition.

Francis, who played eight matches in the competition, amassed a total of 584 runs while Athanaze claimed 47 wickets in the same number of showings. Their performances helped put their respective teams into the semifinals round of the competition slated for this weekend.

Following closely behind Francis in the batting category is PIC Liberta Blackhawks’ Kofi James with 492 runs in five matches, while CUB Bethesda Golden Eagles’ Shacoy Floyd sits third with 448 runs. Empire’s Juari Edwards rounds off the top five with 441 runs in eight matches.

Blackhawks’ James is second on the bowlers’ list with 32 scalps in five matches, with Kadeem Josiah of All Saints Pythons third with 30 wickets in seven matches. Francis Jr (26 wickets) and Isaiah Bruney (25 wickets) of Rising Sun Spartans round off the top five.

Blackhawks, who finished at the top of the standings with 79 points following nine rounds of matches, will take on fourth-placed All Saints Pythons (61 points) in the first semifinal in Liberta, while second-placed Empire Nation (65 points) face third-placed Pigotts Crushers (63 points) in the second semifinal to be played at the King George the V Grounds.
