The defending champions in the Antigua and Barbuda Cricket Association (ABCA) Two Day Competition, Pigotts Crushers, opened their 2022 campaign on a strong note, beating CUB Bethesda Golden Eagles by an innings and 76 runs on the weekend.

Crushers, playing away to Eagles, actually only needed one day to complete the comprehensive victory.

Winning the toss and opting to bat, Crushers made what seemed a worriless total of 176 all out in 41.5 overs. Their best effort with the bat came from Elroy Francis Jr who made 57 while Gershum Phillip and Demari Benta added 28 and 26 runs respectively. Jawakie Joseph did the damage for the home team, claiming four wickets for 48 runs in 12 overs.

It would however be a nightmarish day with the bat for the home team as they were twice bowled out for under 60 runs to hand Crushers the comfortable win.

In their first attempt, Eagles were bowled out for 41 in just 12.4 overs with Jared JnBaptist claiming five for 16 in five overs and Essan Warner, previously of Eagles, picking up three for 16 in six overs.

Asked to bat a second time on day one, the home team was bundled out for 57 in their second innings. Jamaul Fernandez top-scored with 31. Kadeem Henry snatched four wickets for just seven runs in 2.4 overs.

In another one-sided affair, PIC Liberta Blackhawks defeated New Winthorpes Lions by an innings and 94 runs over two days at Liberta.

Asked to bat by the visitors, Blackhawks amassed 266 all out in 84.5 overs with Joshua Thomas hitting nine fours on his way to a top score of 79 off 180 deliveries. Kofi James added 51 off 104 deliveries. Bowling for Lions, Nino Henry and Ian Eusebe both claimed four wickets.

In their first innings, the visitors were routed for 93 in just 39 overs with their best effort coming from Keeshan Daawuud who made 25. James was the pick of the bowlers for Blackhawks, picking up five for 19 in 12 overs.

Batting a second time, Lions were all out for 79 in 24.5 overs with James doing the damage once more, claiming six wickets for nine runs in 5.5 overs.

There was a comprehensive victory as well for All Saints Pythons who beat Massy United Combined Schools by an innings and 116 runs at Factory Grounds while Rising Sun Spartans won by an innings and 34 runs against Bolans Blasters at Bolans.

Meanwhile, hosts Jennings Tigers and Empire Nation played to a competitive draw.
