The Mandy Premier League (MPL) will join a number of other sporting bodies and execs in raising funds for Derrick “Pretty-boy” Edwards and Danny Benjamin who both face drug charges in Jamaica.
Edwards and Benjamin, were arrested last month after less than 4 pounds of cannabis were found in a bag, allegedly under their care, at the Norman Manley International Airport.
The arrest occurred just as they were to board a flight back home to Antigua.
Both men were traveling with the Men’s Senior football team, the Benna Boys, that just a day before, drew 1-1 with the Reggae Boyz of Jamaica.
Coordinator of the league, Mandy Weathered, announced the initiative last week.
That initiative will see an All-Star team face-off against the Good Morning JoJo cricket team on May 3rd at Powells starting at 6:30 p.m.
Swango Mark, Gaynel Ogarro and Sasha Michael were selected from the Dredgers team while Shemroy Griffith, Kimberley Anthony and Deran Benta were chosen from the ACB Warriors.
Anthony Mathurin (St. Lucia), Vestan Lewis and Kennedy Tonge of Duck and Ariana Farrell (Stingers) were also called up.
Kenny Benjamin (PMS), Rudy Matthew (Sisserou), Randina Turner (Jamaica) and Ahmad Ashfaq of Herberts were also selected.
Future Star’s Andrea Samuel and Niomi Bellot round off the team.
Teams will be allowed to sub in, and all other MPL rules apply.
Players are asked to indicate, as early as possible, if they won’t be able to be a part of the team so that the necessary replacements can be made.
