Two Customs brokers caught in a long fraud investigation face further delays as their latest case encounters another adjournment before committal.
Rowan Matthew of Judge’s Hill Estate and Foston George of Pares Village remain at the centre of multiple fraud allegations, with several cases already advancing to the High Court last year.
The latest charges add to a string of alleged Customs scams allegedly committed in 2017.
While previous cases make their way through the High Court system, these newest charges await their turn for committal proceedings.
In June this year, the duo was hit with eight additional charges as part of an ongoing investigation. These new charges include two counts each of cheating public revenue, making false declarations, electronic forgery, and conspiracy to defraud, amounting to fraud of nearly $31,000.
The accused appeared in the St John’s Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Dexter Wason this week, but the case was adjourned until January 21.
The alleged scheme involved using duty-free concession codes from the government to avoid paying taxes while pocketing money from their clients.
Reports suggest that in each case, the defendants are accused of defrauding different individuals.
