The mother and brother of suspended Assistant Superintendent of Police Ray John spent just over 24 hours in custody after being stopped at the airport on Monday when they were about to leave the country.
Sources close to the probe told OBSERVER media that the mother, who is elderly, was advised since Friday that the authorities wanted to question her about the passport matter in which her son, ASP John, is allegedly involved.
The woman was reportedly told to go to Police Headquarters on Monday for that interview. But, instead of adhering, she proceeded with earlier plans to leave the state.
According to one of the sources, the son who was detained with her on Monday, is the one who cares for her and they were both visiting Antigua.
The duo was released late yesterday following the interview and are set to leave the island some time later this week, another source revealed.
However, before they do so, they are to return to the police today (Wednesday) to collect items that had been seized from them when they were detained.
Suspended ASP John is under investigation, after a man told police in St. Vincent that he obtained several bio pages of Antigua and Barbuda passports as well as a printing machine from John.
The man allegedly made the claim after he was found in St. Vincent, in possession of the bio pages, a flash drive with passport information and other items, two Fridays ago.
On Saturday, John gave his first official interview and police statement to officers looking into his alleged role in the matter.
