The Cool and Smooth T20 Explosion All Stars match which was slated for this month has been cancelled by the organisers.
This has been confirmed by one member of the organising committee, Dario Barthley, who said “logistical challenges” and other issues contributed to the decision.
“Obviously, reluctantly so, but some logistical challenges proved too much for us to overcome and as you may know, Amer has been out of the country for some time now and he had to extend his stay because of some personal matters. I myself, have not been around much so in terms of planning and organisation on our end, it has to be said that we dropped the ball in a sense by not preparing long in advance,” he said.
The match would have seen a Cool & Smooth All Stars team compete against the St. Kitts and Nevis
Patriots at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground on August 5, and would have featured international stars like Chris Gayle, Carlos Brathwaite and Sheldon Cottrell who all feature for the Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League.
“An option that was on the table that I think could have worked, was for the ABCA to fully administer the game however, due to our challenges we were unable to necessarily hand over in an appropriate manner for them to do so,” he said.
Barthley apologised to the public and all the stakeholders who would have been working towards hosting the match.
“I want to apologise to the public and our sponsors also, for not being able to effectively pull off this game. Obviously we are looking to grow a brand and go from strength to strength, so we are looking to bring back this game in 2019 along with another successful tournament, so hold the faith I’d say, and thanks for looking forward to this game. I’ve had a lot of inquiries as to what was going on and our humblest apologies in that regard,” he said.
The Caribbean Union Bank (CUB) Bethesda Golden Eagles captured the 2018 edition of the Cool & Smooth T20 Explosion.
