This year’s edition of the Cool & Smooth T20 Explosion will be held in July.

This is according to head of the organising committee Dario Barthley who said players, for a second straight year, will engage in more matches in the tournament’s newly adapted round-robin format.

“Currently, we are looking at July 3rd to the 22nd or thereabout, and the format will be each team will play each other once [round robin] and then we will have semifinals and final stages, because a promise that we made to the ABCA is that we get more games. So the players are playing more T20 cricket considering that it is the only tournament [and] we definitely don’t want to stray away from that,” he said.

Barthley said the organisers are finalising other aspects of this year’s tournament such as venue, participating teams, outside players, etc.

This, even as the newly created St Kitts Cool & Smooth T20 Explosion is set to climax on May 5th in that country.

“The St Kitts cricket association has been very supportive and the government has been supportive in the way that they can as well, and if it’s something that adds to the structure over there then I don’t see why it shouldn’t continue. Obviously, we will do what we can to support that and so for me, it’s a long-term project and it’s just left to be seen after assessing this first edition how we move forward with it,” he said.

Six franchises are competing in the tournament with the top four set to head to the semifinals round starting on May 2.

“I think the most encouraging thing has been the players. The players seem very excited about the tournament and they’re playing to the best of their ability and it’s going well so far. Overall, we are quite pleased and then obviously, for the final, we will try to pump it up a little bit and hopefully, it is something that continues long into the future,” Barthley said.

Three teams, Sandy Point Snappers, Molineaux Blue Runners and St Paul’s Barracudas were tied at the top of the standings with six points each following matches played on April 28. Brownhill Dolphins (2 pts), Haynes Smith Sharks (2 pts) and Government Road Stingrays (0 pts) are the other teams in the tournament.
