The sentencing hearing for a man who has been convicted of manslaughter has been adjourned due to the fact that his probation report was not yet ready,

Alfred Delice appeared in the High Court on December 6 but is due to return to His Majesty’s Prison on December 13.

The St Johnston’s Village man, who was initially charged with murder, had a change of heart and pleaded guilty instead to the lesser count of manslaughter, citing that he was provoked.

He fatally stabbed fellow villager Steve Pablo Francis during an altercation on July 14, 2021, at around 8.45pm.

Delice and Francis had been in a dispute over a woman and during a heated argument on a playing field in their village, Delice reportedly armed himself with a screwdriver and stabbed Francis in the neck.

Francis was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but died seven days later.

Delice, who had fled from the scene later turned himself in to the police and was initially charged with attempted murder.

However, after the 42-year-old father of one succumbed to his injuries, the charge was upgraded to murder.
