All mariners, who intend to escort Team Antigua Island Girls on their final entry into Antigua are being asked to take all the safety precautions to ensure there are no accidents.

The advisory from Antigua and Barbuda Defense Force Coast Guard comes as the entire nation prepares to welcome the all-female team.

The Coast Guard said it will be providing escort to the team and is therefore asking all other vessels to maintain a safe distance from them as well as from each other.

The department also added that the number one priority is safety for all vessels operating in the area and for the Team Antigua Island Girls.

There is also an appeal for all mariners to maintain a watch on marine radio VHF channel 16 for any Urgent Information Marine Broadcast.

Currently participating in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Row – dubbed the world’s toughest row – Team Antigua Island Girls set off from La Gomera, Canary Islands, on December 12, 2018 on the 3,000-mile journey that culminates at Nelson’s Dockyard in English Harbour, Antigua and Barbuda.

The team has made history as the first female team of black women to compete in the challenge. The four courageous young women are expected to reach home on Tuesday when they will be greeted by thousands of proud supporters, well-wishers, family members and friends.
