Cliff Hangers and Scotia Bank picked up victories in the ongoing Antigua and Barbuda Amateur Volleyball Association (ABAVA) Business League over the weekend.
Playing Saturday night at the YMCA Volleyball Indoor facility, newbies, Cliff Hangers bounced back from their upsetting loss to former champions, Jumby Bay, to edge out Island Provision 2-1, in sets.
After winning the first set 25-23, the newbies faltered in the second, giving Island Provision some much needed momentum to take the second set, 22-25, and push to a final third set.
Both teams were evenly matched, exchanging point for point but the newbies would not suffer two straight losses and rose to the occasion to snatch a well-deserved win away, winning 15-13 in their Zone 1 encounter.
Veterans, Scotia Bank, joined Cliff Hangers in a winner’s circle with a 2-1 victory over Sandals in the Zone 2 feature match.
Sandals fell flat in the second set, losing 22-25, after a stunning 25-17 first set performance.
With the third and final deciding set underway, both teams brought their ‘A’-game but experience would prevail as the vets claimed the set and the game 15-10.
