City South Municipal Foundation Inc., a nonprofit organisation registered in Antigua and Barbuda, awarded four student-athletes with the Chargers Volleyball Club Grant for 2024.

City South Municipal Foundation Inc has awarded its initial round of four grants, each valued at $2,000, to members of the Chargers Volleyball Club, Faith Gibson, Michelle Christophe, Rhiana Matthews and Darren Williams, all recent secondary school graduates and all of whom have been members of the Chargers Volleyball Club from its initial establishment in 2002.

The mission of Chargers Volleyball Club is to help mentor and train volleyball athletes, to be confident and empowered, with a desire to be a positive role model in the community. Throughout our club year we use volleyball to successfully create a positive, nurturing, fun environment, and teach our athletes life lessons such as tenacity, teamwork, communication, leadership, work ethic, integrity, and how to handle conflict and adversity.

The recipients are receiving the grants through the City South Municipal Foundation Inc. Scholarship Fund, created in 2024 to provide financial support for student-athletes based on leadership qualities, participation in Chargers Club activities, and financial need. This is our initial round of grants and our goal is to help families/athletes throughout Antigua and Barbuda have the gift of competitive volleyball while developing holistically through community financial support.

We are hopeful that with additional community and corporate support we can provide grants for a wider pool of student-athletes.

“The impact and effect these student-athletes will have on the volleyball community and the wider community will make all of us proud as coaches, parents and guardians. City South Municipal Foundation Inc. is grateful and excited to provide this financial support to these 4 deserving recipients as they pursue their life goals. We are thankful for their contributions to our sport and their participation in the Chargers Volleyball Club and look forward to seeing their continued success.”

For the 2024/2025 club year, we have over 40 young participants and many more are seeking to join our program. Please help us – help them by making a financial contribution to our scholarship fund.
