Green City FC continued their battle for promotion to the First Division with a crucial 2-0 win over former top flight champions, BASSA, on Tuesday.

Sylvester Fenton scored both goals for City, netting in minutes seven and 30 to push his team to the top of the standings in Zone B of the Second Division with 30 points after 14 showings. They are now two points ahead of Young Lions who continue to drop valuable points following a scoreless draw with Sea View Farm, also on Tuesday.

The loss was BASSA’s eighth in 13 showings as they remain on 13 points and in the bottom half of the standings.

Meanwhile, Young Lions’ draw saw them onto 28 points after 14 showings as they slip into the third position.

There was victory as well for JSC Progressors as they beat Tamo FC 4-0. They were led by Alex Browne who scored a double with goals in minutes 60 and 71, while Keniel Leader and Jamie Harris scored in minutes 40 and 57.

Progressors move to 30 points from 13 showings but have an inferior goal difference to that of Green City.

Bethesda Bald Eagles and Blackburn Palace played to a 2-2 draw when they met in Bethesda. Renato Archibald and Kurt Richards each scored once for Bethesda while Xavier Marshall and Diondre Harrigan had a goal apiece for Palace.

Bald Eagles move to 24 points from 14 showings while Palace are on 12 from 11 matches.

The top team from each zone will gain automatic promotion to the First Division while the two second placed teams will go into a playoff with the team finishing third from bottom in the First Division for a third and final spot in that tier.

In the only female match played on Tuesday, Wadadli United FC defeated Grenades FC 2-0. Shunnye Christopher and Sacha Michael each scored once for the victors.
