A man who was violently attacked by a cutlass-wielding assailant two days ago is currently warded at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) OF Mount St. John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC) where he is being treated for serious injuries sustained during the incident.

According to the victim’s aunt Francellar Samuel-Williams, her nephew, 30-year-old Karim Samuel, is recovering after undergoing emergency surgery for the multiple wounds inflicted mostly to his back, neck, right arm and fingers while he was outside the V&M Supermarket in Bolans on Wednesday morning.

His alleged attacker, Cortwright DeSilva, who turned himself in to the police around 12:45 pm, approximately three hours following the incident, remained in police custody up to late Thursday.

Samuel-Williams told OBSERVER media that the altercation between Samuel and DeSilva started with an argument over mangoes.

Shortly after the attack, the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel rushed Samuel to MSJMC.

The police are continuing their investigations into the matter but, until press time, our newsroom was unable to ascertain whether or not they have filed any charges against Desilva in relation to the incident.
