Rahkeem Cornwall produced a magnificent all-round performance to guide Leeward Islands to a four-wicket victory over Combined Campuses and Colleges, booking their place in the semi-finals.
Cornwall first wreaked havoc with the ball, claiming his second five-wicket haul of the tournament with exceptional figures of 6-20, to better a similar performance against the Windward Islands when he got 6-26.
His devastating spell also included another three-wicket maiden over in the tournament and proved instrumental in dismissing CCC for 151. Jonathan Drakes (48) and Shaqkere Parris (38) were the only CCC batsmen to offer significant resistance as Cornwall systematically dismantled their line-up.
When Leeward Islands’ chase hit troubled waters at 68-6, Cornwall stepped up with the bat in spectacular fashion.
The all-rounder launched a blistering counter-attack, smashing an unbeaten 84 off just 39 balls in a knock that included eight fours and seven sixes. His explosive strike rate of 215 transformed what could have been a challenging chase into a comfortable victory.
Cornwall found able support from Jeremiah Louis, who remained unbeaten on 12, as they steered Leeward Islands past the target with 4.2 overs to spare. Their unbroken seventh-wicket partnership nullified Akeem Jordan’s five-wicket haul (5-33) for CCC, which had initially put Leeward Islands under pressure.
The comprehensive victory was engineered almost single-handedly by Cornwall, whose outstanding performance with both bat and ball exemplified his value as one of the region’s premier all-rounders.
