The case involving the 15-year-old student who allegedly took a firearm onto the compound of Clare Hall Secondary School (CHSS) came up this week in the High Court and has been referred for mediation.

Justice Rene Williams on Tuesday sent the matter to the Court’s Master in order for the parties to come to an amicable resolution in the case, saving the court’s time and cost on both sides.

The judge is expected to get an update on the mediation process on April 1 when the matter resumes.

The teenager was expelled from the public school system in November last year as a result of his actions, and following a meeting with the Director of Education, Clare Browne.

However, he was given a second chance at his educational pursuits after Browne agreed not to enforce his decision to expel him during an earlier court hearing.

As a result of a High Court order the teenager recommenced classes at a government-run educational institution at the beginning of the new school term on January 6.

The young man’s mother is challenging his expulsion from CHSS, which she contends is without good cause.

Reports are that sometime after midday on September 27 last year, he was reportedly spotted with a firearm on the school’s compound. An alarm was raised and the police arrived on the scene and conducted investigations. However, the weapon was allegedly not recovered.

The teenager is facing a charge of attempting to use a weapon in the furtherance of an offence.
