A member of the National Youth Ambassador Corps of Antigua and Barbuda is encouraging young leaders across the island to apply to become members of the National Youth Volunteer Corps of Antigua and Barbuda.
Shaquan O’Neil said that as the tenure of the current members comes to a close, there will be room for approximately 10 new prospective youth ambassadors.
“So, if you really want to continue making a meaningful contribution to your country, this is a great opportunity to do so,” he said.
According to the 21-year-old representative, “The corps helps you not only to become youth advocates, network and build knowledge, but it also plays a key role in your personal growth. When it comes to stress and time management, self-esteem, and confidence, the National Youth Ambassadors Corps develops those important skills and qualities that can enrich the lives of young people and others.”
Currently, Antigua and Barbuda has nine National Youth Ambassadors who were appointed by Governor General Sir Rodney Williams during the observance of National Youth Week in August 2023.
Currently, as the Department of Youth Affairs (DYA) prepares for National Youth Week 2025, prospective young leaders who desire to become members of the National Youth Volunteer Corps are being interviewed.
The Director of Youth Affairs Dr Jrucilla Samuel said the interview process commenced in January and is expected to conclude by the end of March.
According to Dr Samuel, the plan is to appoint National Youth Ambassadors on International Youth Day – August 12 – which coincides with the local National Youth Week celebrations.
Individuals wishing to be part of the National Youth Ambassador Corps are invited to contact the Department of Youth Affairs and express their interest via email, [email protected] or call 781-3078.
