Although yet to medal at the ongoing CAC Games being held in San Salvador, team Antigua and Barbuda have had some commendable performances at the 24th edition of the games.
On Monday, sprinter Cejhae Greene clocked 10.43 seconds to finish fourth in the men’s 100 meters final. Greene reached the finals after clocking 10.31 in the semis that same day.
In beach volleyball, both the male and female teams lost their first round of matches against the British Virgin Islands. The men’s team then won against the Turks and Caicos Islands, while the women’s team lost to Panama.
Antigua and Barbuda received points when Suriname did not start their match, but the men’s team lost to Jamaica in their third match. The women’s team were beaten in their final match against St Lucia, and the men’s team lost to St Vincent and Grenadines.
In boxing, Alston Ryan won in the round of 16 in the 63.5 kg (140 lbs) category against the British Virgin Islands. However, he lost in the quarterfinals to the Dominican Republic.
In swimming, Jadon Wuillez reached the A final and placed eighth in the 50 meters breaststroke. He also reached the B finals and placed fifth. Stefano Mitchell set a national record and won the B final in the 50 meters freestyle, but finished in eighth place and placed 14th overall in the 100 meters freestyle.
Noah Mascoll Gomes reached the B final and placed 14th overall in the 400 meters freestyle, and 23rd in the 100 meters freestyle. Ellie Shaw had commendable performances with a 10th place finish in both the 50 meters and 100 meters breaststroke, and a 13th place overall finish in the 200 meters breaststroke.
Olivia Fuller placed 24th in the 100m freestyle and 22nd in the 50m freestyle.
In sailing, Jules Mitchell and team manager Vincent Afni placed eighth out of 16 sailors in the ILCA7 competition. They were also awarded the best-emerging team, which could potentially earn them a wild card spot for the Pan American Games in October 2023.
