Burma Quarry protest heads into day three

The acting supervisor at the Burma Quarry has received the full support of his subordinates and union as their industrial action continues for a third day.
Yesterday, fifteen workers made the decision to go slow until acting supervisor Bhagratt “Bhaggy” Kalidass’ position at the Burma Quarry was secured.
The Antigua Trades and Labour Union (ATLU) Industrial Relations Officer, Ralph Potter, said the union does not agree with upper management’s handling of the relocation of the employee.
“We want to send a very clear message that management, whether public or private sector, must act properly, must deal with people fairly and anything that they are going to do, must be able [to] stand up to scrutiny,” said Potter.
The union representative explained that the position taken by the Public Works Department “must cease” before the workers return to normal operations.
Public Works Director Lucene Hanley reportedly told Kalidass to report to the Bendal’s Quarry on Thursday morning but he did not.
Since then, Kalidass has received official transfer papers, but he has said that he will not accept the transfer.
