The Antigua and Barbuda senior men’s basketball team, the Bulldogs, pushed their undefeated streak to 2-0 at the ongoing FIBA AmeriCup 2021 Caribbean Pre-Qualifiers in Suriname.
The Bulldogs, after winning their opening encounter on Sunday 91-78 versus Bermuda, are now one win away from advancing into the knock-out stage after defeating newbies, Montserrat, 87-66 in their latest match-up on Monday.
With a 17-point, nine rebounds effort by Adonis Humphreys in his national debut on Sunday and a 16-point contribution by Lennox “Termite” McCoy; the team rallied once again at the Anthony Nesty Sporthal in Suriname to blow out an inexperienced Montserrat team.
“Adonis is very fundamental, he didn’t do the stuff that he couldn’t do, he tries to play within himself and just as long he keeps it simple that’s a recipe of success for him”, said teammate and veteran, Bryan “Hollywood” Matthew.
Cohen DeSouza was the leading scorer for the Bulldogs on Monday with 15 points.
He was assisted by teammates Vivian “Boast” Destin who had 12 points and four rebounds and McCoy with 10 points and five rebounds.
Humphreys chipped in grabbing 11 rebounds.
“Defense was extremely good at certain points, offense got better as the game progressed. If the guys just believe in the process then they are going to be successful”, stated Assistant Coach Jay Harrington.
The Bulldogs will look to advance from the group stages as they face Barbados tonight at 5:45 p.m. (local time)/ 6:45 p.m. Suriname time.
