National cycling champion, 16-year-old Tahje Browne, emerged winner of the featured Last Man Standing race during the inaugural Andre Simon Memorial Race hosted by the Road Runners Cycling Club on Sunday.

Browne dominated the event to out-muscle veteran Robert Marsh who finished second and Conroy Thomas who crossed the line in the third position.

The Last Man Standing race, which sees the cyclist finishing at the back of the pack after every run eliminated, was favoured by Simon who died in 2023. Simon, in 2022, was seriously injured in the horrific Mother’s Day vehicular accident when a motorist ploughed into him and three other cyclists during a training ride on Sir George Walter Highway.

Browne also dominated the Junior division of the circuit races, which saw competitors do eight laps on the roads around the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. He finished ahead Jayeonte Joseph and Dejaun Francis who finished second and third respectively.

The Elite event, which also saw riders complete eight laps, was dominated by Marsh with Jahiem Telemaque and Marcus Ozuna finishing second and third respectively. In the Masters category, which saw cyclists completing five laps, Edward Henry finished ahead of the pack with Vaughn Gomes in second and Tiziano Rosignoli in third.

Two riders, Elite Thomas and Benjamin Carl competed in the Cadets class with Thomas in first and Carl in second. The cadets completed three laps around the stadium.

Trevor Henry Jr was first in the fun race with Jemoul Francis and Tabari Moore in second and third respectively in the three laps event.
