Antigua and Barbuda secured the bronze medal in the men’s Group E of the NORCECA Zone of the FIVB World Championships qualification round for teams in the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA).
Antigua & Barbuda won their match against St Kitts & Nevis 3-2 (24-26, 25-27, 25-20, 25-19, 15-9)
St Kitts and Nevis showed early signs of winning the match but faltered as Antigua & Barbuda refocused and got their passing and setting together.
Leading scorers for Antigua & Barbuda were the outside hitter Jamarie James and opposite hitter Xavier Roberts as the two had twenty points each while for St Kitts & Nevis, their outside hitter Shawn Seabrooks had thirty one points.
Captain of Antigua & Barbuda, Olsen Joseph in evaluating his team’s final position, admitted that his team were seeking a higher place in the competition.
“It was not the bronze we came here for. We were expecting first place but we lost out on a place in the final by 0.06 of point in the whole point system,” Joseph said.
Joseph also blamed an early loss to Dominica for his team’s failure to make it to the championship match.
St Vincent and the Grenadines and Dominica will play in the gold medal match.
