Local police have confirmed that a British cruise ship passenger died at the Mount St. John’s Medical Center (MSJMC) on Monday.

Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Frankie Thomas, told OBSERVER media that the man encountered difficulties while swimming at Dickenson Bay.

He was retrieved from the sea and rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead some time after.

President of the Antigua and Barbuda Cruise Tourism Association Nathan Dundas commented on the incident saying, “It is something that unfortunately happens in the cruise business with so many passengers coming.”

Dundas said the police have been involved and have completed all the documentation necessary and also ensured that the relevant British connections are completely informed.

Meanwhile, arrangements are being made to have the man’s body returned to the United Kingdom where he resided.

The deceased was visiting Antigua and Barbuda with his wife for the second time, after the couple fell in love on the island during his first visit in 2018.

Since the incident, the wife has returned home.
