A 27th minute strike by veteran midfielder and vice-captain, Kai Jacobs, lifted the Antigua and Barbuda Benna Girls to a 1-0 victory over the visiting Anguilla in Group A of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium this afternoon.

Jacobs pounced onto a loose ball just in front of the goal to hit into the back of the net after the Anguilla goalkeeper Samisha Connor, failed to hold onto a long range effort from defender Skyler Scavo off a free kick.

The victory was the first for Antigua and Barbuda in Group A after they were beaten 4-0 by Puerto Rico in their opener back in February while they went under 8-0 to powerhouse Mexico also in February.

The win moves Antigua and Barbuda to fourth in the standings with three points after three encounters while Anguilla remains at the bottom of the standings without a point.

Mexico continues to lead the group on goal difference ahead of Puerto Rico.

The Benna Girls will take on Suriname on April 12 in Suriname.
