Benna Boys eliminated from CONCACAF tournament

The Under-17 men’s football team, the Benna Boys, were eliminated from the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Under-17 Championships on Sunday afternoon. The Benna Boys –who needed a win or a draw in their final Group B match to advance to the round of 16 – went under to the Dominican Republic 2-0 at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

Franklin Rodriguez scored a brace for the victors – hitting home in the 46th and 56th minutes — pushing them to the top of the standings with nine points to secure the final advancing spot. Dominican Republic join Group A winners Nicaragua, Group C winners Guadeloupe, and Group D winners Puerto Rico in the round of 16.

The knockout style championships from May 01- 16 will see Mexico, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Bermuda battle in Group E, while Canada, USA, Guatemala and Barbados will face off in Group F. In Group G, Honduras, Haiti, El Salvador and Guyana will play; and Costa Rica, Panama, Suriname and Curacao will do warin Group H to secure a semi-final spot. The semi-finalists will automatically advance to the FIFA Under-17 World Cup.
