Belmont FC recorded their first victory in the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) Second Division when, on Wednesday, they claimed a narrow 2-1 win over Blackburn Palace at the FA’s technical centre on the Sir Sydney Walling Highway.

Sheridan Winfield put Belmont ahead with a 26th minute strike, sending his team into the interval with a one-nil advantage. Deon Lavonn gave Palace some home when he equalised on minute 62, but a late conversion from Jahvier Joseph secured three points for Belmont as the player netted from close range in the 89th minute.

The win moves Belmont to three points after five showings while Palace remain on three points.

Meanwhile, at Freeman’s Village, the home team had the better of visitors ABAYA by a 3-1 margin to record their third win of the competition.

Mekai Lewis led the way for Freeman’s Village with a brace, scoring in minutes 54 and 76, while Brian Haywood scored the other goal on minute 56. Jahgure Armstrong scored the lone goal for ABAYA in the 18th minute.

ABAYA’s Michael Benjamin was red carded in the 34th minute for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.

There was victory as well for FC Master Ballerz who beat CPTSA Wings 1-0 for their first win of the competition. Shem Dascent scored the lone goal of the match in minute 18.
