Baroness Patricia Scotland has won the election for the post of Commonwealth Secretary General.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne confirmed the result for Observer Media.
Scotland who was nominated by Dominica defeats Antigua and Barbuda’s nominee Sir Ronald Sanders who was considered the favourite. However it was suspected Sir Ron’s favoured status could have been changed with the publishing of a Daily Telegraph article which linked Sir Ron to an alleged 1.4 million dollar scandal. There was a third candidate nominated by an African state.
Baroness Scotland praised the other candidates.
“I was incredibly proud to be one of the candidates but the two other candidates, Antigua and Botswana, have much to offer and i am humbled that i was chosen in their stead. Can I just say to Antigua that they have indeed won because I too, am an Antiguan through my father”.
