After being offline for just over a week, the voter registration unit in Barbuda is once again operational.

The unit encountered technical and internet connectivity challenges and went offline on August 14, along with 12 units located in Antigua.

Although the units in Antigua were promptly restored, a team of technicians from the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) and officials from the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) ventured to the sister isle on August 22 to address the issue.

ABEC’s service provider, the Canadian Bank Note (CBN), successfully identified and resolved the connectivity issues. Following the reactivation of its electoral management system, the Barbuda unit has resumed all electoral services.

This development ensures that all 17 registration units are fully operational, allowing for the smooth continuation of the expired voters’ ID card replacement programme, which commenced on August 12.
