The drawback of not having a usable track for the past two years has certainly not blighted the dominance of athletics on the national front as the sport dominated the Vita Malt National Sports Awards held at the Casa Palmedita Restaurant on Saturday night.

Sprinter Cejhae Greene and high-jumper Priscilla Frederick were named Sportsman and Sportswomen of The Year for 2019 while junior athletes and sprinters Joella Lloyd and Ajarni Daley copped the Junior Sportswoman and Sportsman titles.

On his way to his first national title, Greene edged West Indies spinner Rahkeem Cornwall of cricket and Bernard Percival Jr of bodybuilding to the coveted prize.

Frederick wins her second Sportswoman of the Year award ahead of cricket’s Shawnesha Hector and Sher-Rhonda Braithwaite of bodybuilding.

Both walked away with a $10,000.00 cash prize.

Other winners on the night were: Carl Williams (mind sport, male), Joann Barnes Davis (mind sport, female), Kebra Nanton (administrator of the year, basketball), Wasna Bernard (official of the year, football), Kenneth Benjamin (coach of the year, cricket), Antigua and Barbuda Swimming Federation (association of the year) and Riptide Swim Team, Antigua Swim School (club of the year).
More details to follow.
