Dr Rodney Williams, president of the Athletic Association of Antigua & Barbuda, has congratulated young sprinter Tahir Walsh on his having won a bronze medal in the 100 metres sprint at the recently concluded Carifta Games.
Dr Williams highlighted the achievement of Walsh, especially as it was his first appearance at the Carifta Games.
He noted that the Games, which has become the major junior athletic event outside of the World Junior Championships, continues to serve as the launching pad for many of the Caribbean’s top athletes, some of whom eventually become World and Olympic champions.
The ABAA president hoped that Walsh would continue working hard so that he would, in the years ahead, continue to represent the country well at future Carifta Games, and in other local regional and international events.
The president recognised that there was a wealth of talent among so many of our young students, and hoped that more of them would follow the footsteps of Walsh and others in striving to achieve greater heights for themselves, their schools and for the nation in the final analysis.
