The Antigua Turf Club (ATC) will undertake a new initiative where, for the first time ever, horse racing will be held on a Saturday instead of its regular Sunday fixture.
This news was announced by President of the ATC, Neil Cochrane who spoke on the Good Morning JoJo Sports show yesterday.
Cochrane shared his excitement about the decision to host the event on that day.
“We are excited about it, we are excited about the change and we’re excited about the opportunity. We believe that it’s going to be a fantastic race meet.”
The meet dubbed ‘Greatness’ will be the first event in at least four years that will occur during the Carnival season and will keep in tune with the festivities to include a line-up of local soca artistes and a special promotion for all supporters.
“If you go to breakfast fete with your ticket stub from horse racing and you go to purchase your ticket on that morning you will get a $25 saving. It is one ticket stub per person and this is a collaboration between the promoters of the fete and the ATC,” said Cochrane.
The official also gave notice that no vending will be allowed on the day, since the ATC will be selling its own food and drinks in order to “generate revenue for investment purposes.”
The day will feature six races.
The gates open at 1 p.m. while racing begins at 3 p.m.
