Aska, Maginley and Mitchell record losses in Pan Am Games as Mascoll-Gomes registers DNS

Boxer Yakita Aska narrowly missed promotion to the semifinal round of the Men’s 92kg event ongoing at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

The Antiguan lost the five rounds encounter by a 3-2 margin to Canada’s Bryan Colwell with judges scoring the first three rounds 10-9 in favour of the Canadian. Aska rebounded to take the final two rounds by 10-9 margins.

The boxer had previously advanced from the preliminary round with victory over Guyana’s Emmanuel Pompey on Sunday by winning four of the five rounds. He had scores of 29-28, 30-27, 28-29, 30-27 and 30-27.

Meanwhile, professional tennis player Jody Maginley lost 6-4, 7-6 to the Dominica Republic’s Peter Bertran in men’s singles round of 64. The defeat means he will not advance to the round of 32.

In swimming, Stefano Mitchell finished eighth in the Men’s 100 meters Freestyle event with a time of 52.86 seconds while Noah Mascoll-Gomes registered a Did Not Start (DNS) in the Men’s 100 meters Breaststroke.
