Water production is expected to increase significantly this weekend after the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) confirmed that all the necessary work to expand the new reverse osmosis plant at Ffryes Beach and to connect the supply lines had been completed.
Starting today, Friday, the plant is expected to begin producing one million gallons of water per day to serve communities, particularly in the south of the island.
The pumps at the Ffryes Beach RO plant were expected to be activated on Tuesday January 28.
According to APUA, one will pump water in a northerly direction — as far as St John’s – while the other will pump in a southerly direction to meet residents’ demands in Johnson’s Point, Cades Bay, Old Road, and other communities.
The government had entered into an agreement with Seven Seas Water Group, a Florida-based company, to boost water production islandwide.
