Antigua’s Quinn and El Salvador’s Gutierrez win doubles title at Chatoyer’s Invitational

Antigua and Barbuda’s Giovanni Quinn, and El Salvador’s Mateo Gutierrez, emerged winners in the Chatoyer’s Tennis Invitational held in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The pair had the better of Dimitri Kirton and Zane Kirton, both of Barbados, by scores of 6-3 6-1 to claim the under-14 doubles title.

Quinn competed alongside Niike Hughes, another budding Antiguan tennis player at the tournament. Hughes, who was ranked sixth in the tournament, and Quinn, who was ranked fourth, performed credibly, gaining much needed experience.

In the previous day’s competition, Hughes toppled Manuel Yorke from St Vincent 4-0 4-0, but later lost to Zane Kirton of Barbados 5-4, 1-4, 4-5 in a valiant battle. He advanced to the main draw where he lost to Dimitri Kirton of Barbados 1-6 2-6.

Quinn advanced to the Main Draw beating Akquin Johnson, Keython Gaymes, and Krish Puga all from St Vincent and the Grenadines by scores of 4-0 4-0. He however went under to Zane Kirton by 3-6, 2-6 scores in the main draw quarter final.

Following this tournament, the team travels to St Lucia to compete in the Sagicor Junior International U-14 Tennis Championship from August 3-8. The team will be joined by Nazeah Murray, who will be competing in the Girls U-14 category.
