Ivor Grenville Theophilus Bird, former Managing Director of Grenville Radio Limited and a prominent figure in Antigua’s media landscape, was found deceased at his Halcyon Heights residence yesterday evening.
Mr. Bird, known widely as ‘The Silent One,’ led ZDK Radio and Sun FM for several decades.
He was the son of Sir V.C. Bird Senior, the Father of the Nation, and brother to former Prime Minister Sir Lester Bird and the late Vere Bird Jr.
Beyond his contributions to media, Bird was an accomplished athlete.
He earned distinction as the final gold medallist in high jump at the 1965 British West Indies Championships, and represented Antigua and Barbuda at the 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games.
At the time of his passing, Bird was the father of politician Sean Bird. His death was confirmed after a family member discovered him at his residence.
