Antiguan female wins scholarship to flight school

Young Antiguan Stephanie Richard wins flight scholarship at the Antigua Flight Training Center

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Young Antiguan Stephanie Richard has been awarded a scholarship valued over US $13,000 to begin training at the Antigua Flight Training Center.

I am very appreciative and humbled to be awarded this opportunity from Antigua Flight Training Center, and know I will strive to be a worthy recipient of this incredible reward,” Richard said.

Principal of the Antigua Flight Training Center Grace Norman said Richard impressed in the center’s annual essay competition.

“She wrote about herself and what it means to her. She should be starting her classes in January. The award is the training for the private licence,” Norman said.

Norman said the school is trying to convince more Antiguans and Barbudans to enter the aviation industry.

“There are never enough Antiguans,” Norman said. “We’ve had people from other islands come in and even as far as Belgium. The licence is an OECS licence and it’s an ICAO International Civil Aviation Licence, which means it’s valued all throughout the world so we encourage young people to come.”
