A young Antiguan community activist who died recently will be honoured this weekend in New York City by having a street named after him.

The late Duane Joseph was born to an Antiguan father, Claxton Joseph, and a Barbadian mother.

He attended the Grace Christian Academy in Antigua before migrating to Brooklyn, New York, in 1991.

A kind-hearted, caring youngster who always went the extra mile to do right by the less fortunate and the suffering, he worked in many positions for the City of New York and his community of Brooklyn, catering to the needs of the poor and the dispossessed.

This Saturday at 11am, there will be a street co-naming for Joseph at Parkside Plaza in Brooklyn.

A social media post on the street-naming exerciseread:“During his short lifespan, Duane was a strong advocate for the people in the community in which he resided. His particular focus was the youth, as he saw the need to have them educated and knowledgeable on how they could become responsible individuals equipped with leadership capabilities, contributing to their communities in all spheres.”
