Junior female tennis player, Sibley Charles claimed her first ever International Tennis Federation (ITF) titles, winning both the singles and doubles championships last week at the C.O. Williams Barbados Jr. International in Barbados.
Charles secured the singles title after defeating No.1 seed and hometown girl, Serena Bryan in three sets.
Bryan, who was the clear favourite to win the tournament, won the first set, 6-7 but faltered in the second as Charles rallied in a tie break set to win 7-6.
The final set went down to the wire but Charles rose to the occasion showing mental toughness and skill, upsetting Bryan, 6-2 to win the match and claim the title.
Charles then partnered with Kylee Kirivong of the U.S. to upset the No.1 seeded team of Bryan and Bryan of Barbados, winning in straight sets; 6-3,6-3.
The Antigua and Barbuda Tennis Association (ABTA), in an official press release, congratulated Charles on her achievements.
