Antiguan accused by US of fraud fails to make bail

ST JOHN’S, Antigua- Marjorie Beazer, the Antiguan arrested in the US for fraud, is still unable to make bail.

She was unable to afford the amount, despite getting a reduction on December 30.

According to court records, the 50 year old is to return to the court on January 15 for another bail review.

Beazer is facing allegations she defrauded the US government of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The former head of a reform programme at Antigua’s Her Majesty’s Prison was nabbed in San Juan in late November.

She was later extradited on 12 charges alleging she obtained over 300 hundred thousand US dollars from the Sacramento County Department of Human Affairs.

Beazer, who was arraigned in the on Christmas Eve, is yet to plead to the allegations.
