Antigua & Barbuda on course in LICB 50 overs

Antigua & Barbuda recorded back-to-back victories in the Leeward Islands Cricket Board (LICB) 50 overs competition over the weekend with their latest triumph, a 45 runs victory, coming against St Kitts on Sunday.
Playing in Liberta, Antigua & Barbuda won the toss and opted to bat, amassing 255 for nine in their allotted 50 overs.
Former Leeward Islands and Antigua Hawksbill player Orlando Peters top-scored with 90 runs while Kofi James added 56. There were also contributions from Leeward Islands and West Indies A all-rounder, Rahkeem Cornwall, who made 43, and Liberta Blackhawks’ Karima Gore who added 25 to the total.
Bowling for the opposition, Terrance Warde picked up 3 for 54, Elvin Berridge snatched 2 for 29 and Jeramiah Louis had 2 for 62.
St Kitts fell short in their chase, reaching 210 for eight before their 50 overs elapsed. Their best effort came from Warde who made 85 while Akeem Saunders added 52 runs to the total.
Cornwall picked up three for 37 bowling for the home team but was assisted by Peters who claimed three for 53.
Antigua & Barbuda’s opening victory came on Saturday when they defeated Montserrat by 141 runs at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground.
Meanwhile, in other matches played on Sunday, Nevis defeated Anguilla by 29 runs playing in Bethesda and St Martin beat Montserrat by seven wickets.
Nevis posted 218 all out with their top knock coming from Adelvin Phillip who made 71. Anguilla, in reply, could only get to 189 before they were all out. Keacy Carty was their top batsman with 55 runs.
In the other contest, Montserrat won the toss and opted to bat, reaching 153 all out with McPherson Meade reaching 42.
St Martin, in reply, made 156 for three in 39.3 overs. Akeem Charles batted not out for 80 as the top scorer for the victors.
