In a remarkable turnaround, Antigua and Barbuda’s tennis team has ended their 2024 Billie Jean King Tournament campaign on a high note, clinching their first victory in the competition since their debut appearance in 1997.

The team’s journey through the tournament had been challenging, with disappointing losses in all their group stage matches. However, they showed true resilience and determination in the 9th-place match against Aruba, securing a decisive 2-0 victory in the singles matches.

Janae George-Alexander led the charge for Antigua and Barbuda, showcasing her skills in a hard-fought match against Mali Baroud. George-Alexander’s persistence paid off as she claimed victory with a score of 6-4, 6-3, giving her country the crucial first point.

Building on this momentum, Sibley Charles stepped onto the court and delivered a dominant performance against Danna Nunez. Charles left no room for doubt, sweeping to an emphatic 6-0, 6-1 win and sealing the overall victory for Antigua and Barbuda.
