Antigua and Barbuda suffered a tough semi-finals loss against Guyana on Thursday, going down 1-2.
This loss put them out of the running for the number 1 or 2 position, leaving them to fight for the number 3 position which they cinched 2-1 against Curacao on Friday in Trinidad.
The Under-12 female team is comprises of Aysha Hosam, Zoey James and Janae George-Alexander.
George-Alexander defeated Dewi Nissa 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 while teammate Aysha Hosam lost to Giana Martis 4-6, 4-6.
Doubles partners George-Alexander and James defeated Martis and Nissa 6-1, 7-6(4) to claim the bronze medals.
Meanwhile, Sibley Charles’ run at the Copa Merengue in Santo Domingo has ended.
Teaming up with Mexico’s Viviana Gomez, Charles & Gomez advanced to the doubles quarterfinals defeating the Dominican duo Abby Candelier/Rocio Espinal 4-1, 4-1, but their bid for the semifinals was short-lived as they came up against the No. 2 seeded doubles team, Nicole Alfaro (CRC) and Karen Verduzco (MX), falling 5-3, 1-4, [1-10].
The players now look forward to the Sagicor ITF in St Lucia both at the U12, U14 and U18 levels, the Tobago ITF and the Wadadli Bowl here in Antigua.
