Antigua and Barbuda has been nominated for eight World Travel Awards for 2020.

Those awards include: leading destination, leading beach destination, Most romantic destination, leading honeymoon destination, leading airport, leading airport lounge, leading adventure tourist attraction and leading tourist board, all in the Caribbean category.

Minister of Tourism Charles ‘Max’ Fernandez in congratulating his Ministry, the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority (ABTA) and the hotels nominated, remarked that it is a historic accomplishment for the twin island.

“We are really really happy and delighted that we are nominated for so many awards. The first time actually that Antigua and Barbuda has been nominated for all these awards. We’ve been nominated before for awards but it’s the first time that we’ve been nominated in so many categories.”

“The process of being nominated is in and of itself the height of it for us…. But the most important thing is to even be nominated amongst so many and what it shows is the recognition is there for the hard work that is being put in by the Ministry of Tourism and the Tourism Authority.”

Fernandez added that despite being small in size and consequent voting power, the tropical island has won most romantic destination a few years in a row.

He therefore charged residents to exercise their ability to vote.

The Tourism Minister said: “The process is that it will not be voted online and we are hoping that we will do well but we are hoping that we will do well but as I said, the most important thing is to be recognized and nominated…but again to encourage Antiguans and Barbudans if they get a chance they can go online and vote for us at www.worldtravelawards.com.”

Several of our local resorts have also been nominated for 10 of 23 hotel and resort awards.

In fact, newbie resort, Royalton Antigua Resort & Spa has been nominated for the Caribbean’s leading all-inclusive family resort and the Caribbean’s Leading New Resort 2020.

The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries.

Today, the World Travel Awards brand is recognized globally as the ultimate hallmark of industry excellence.

The 27th World Travel Awards ceremony will take place in January 2020.
